I
hear about these women all the time. Military spouses who have school
aged children but after they leave the bus stop they go home and WORK. yes work
from home! wherever they live!
I pushed pause on my
own career 8 years ago when deployments and babies and careers just became too
much to balance. Times have changed and I found myself dropping my kids
off at the bus stop and coming home and thinking “why can’t I be the one
working from home”? Truth be told, my previous career isn’t exactly what
I wanted to go back to. I want to be
able to work digitally, anywhere in the world by spreading the word about
things I love. Oh, and make decent money doing it. Sounds great, but how?

Enter the Udacity
Nanodegree in Digital Marketing. Designed to be completed in 3 months of
just 10 hours a week (hey, that’s only 1hr and 26 minutes a day!) this program
offers real world learning from industry experts, mentorship, career
assistance, and legitimate projects and skill building activities. I love that I can access the videos at any
time from anywhere and learn at my own pace.
That might be 12 hours one week and 8 hours the next but I am still
moving forward toward my goal. I met my
mentor, a real person and alumni of the nanodegree program, over a video call. She is personable and really cares about who
I am and what my goals are in addition to offering solid tips on getting
through some of the projects. The Udacity
program isn’t a YouTube tutorial or some other click-thru course; it’s real
learning with real objectives and projects.
It’s not easy but I am growing and learning.
I
am in the Digital Marketing Nanodegree Program and I will be a Digital Marketer…after
the kids are on the bus!
